This is what privilege is all about, actually, in a nutshell.
When people talk about white privilege, male privilege, or straight privilege, it’s really about the ability to be judged as an individual and not a representative of a sociological group.
Male politician screws up, he screwed up. Female politician screws up, women can’t run our country.
You could say the same thing about blacks, gays, or any “minority” group. Not to mention we’ve all seen women “give up” on men after a bad boyfriend. We apply this reasoning in many situations, not just for women. Funny strip, though.
Also, Re: Joy-Mari – really? The author’s probably a guy. He writes it from his perspective. There’s nothing wrong with that. You don’t see people bashing “Cathy” for being mostly about women.
You used scare quotes around the word minority? But yes, the dominant group tends to belittle the group with less power through language, laws, and actions.
But yes, Dan, it matters that the main character is always a dude. Nowhere does Randall say that he is one of the main characters in his strip.
Why not have a woman as one strip’s main character instead of being the talking point for the dude characters?
I used “scare quotes” because there are more women on earth then men (referring to them as a minority was ironic).
Listen, not everything has to be about gender equality. Sports center hosts are male, Oprah audiences are female. Some things just are the way they are; whether a comic strip has male or female characters shouldn’t have an impact on whether or not it’s funny.
Dan, I’m not even going to argue with you cause I’m too tired. And I don’t enjoy slamming my head against a wall. Please go read this piece on sexism: What is sexism?

Slamming your head against the wall? You’ve written two posts in response to mine – that seems a little extreme. I’m not sure why the above post had all its vowels removed, but seeing that I’ve taken the time to rewrite it by hand, I certainly hope it wasn’t done on purpose.
“Sexism is…discrimination based on gender…”
I would challenge you to find any evidence of that in the posts I’ve made here – in fact, my original post was just the opposite. On the other hand, one could easily make the argument that you’ve discriminated against XKCD based on the gender of the characters.
But that wouldn’t work, because according to the link “women can’t be sexist against men.” Nice shield – they turned “Judge not, that ye be not judged” into “Judge, for ye cannot be judged back.” I’m not buying it. If you can’t live by your own rules, there’s no reason why anyone else should.
If you want to know what’s become of your vowels, elsewhere on this blog there’s a question about the relationship between libertarianism and censorship.
As for your judgement on judgement, you’ll find – again on this blog - that the “nice shield” against the accusation of sexism provides a scoundrels’ refuge for racists too.
The crispness of your “live by your own rules” gauntlet will haunt me for a while yet.

It’s because ALL WOMEN but ONLY SEVERAL MEN are stupid.
“Girls suck at math” is a mere statement, while saying “You suck at math” to a man is an expression of surprise.

This is from xkcd isn’t it? You could have tell it
Yip, it’s indeed our favourite comic
I heart xkcd. Eeep, I’d need to include a credit to their site. “Link unto others as you would have them link unto you”

A.Y. Siu,
That’s too true. The xkcd comic strip gets it right so often. The only thing dislike about it is that the main character is nearly always a guy.

Neil,
I’ve already given an answer on that one: it’s a private site and I have no say on something like that. And I’ve also told you that you should mail Charles if you have a problem with his site’s name.

You’re joking, right?
